PET Project
PET Project The Personal Energy Transportation (PET) project is a way for members of CUMC to take part in a ministry that is absolutely transformational for leg-handicapped people around the globe. Volunteers from CUMC and other area churches manufacture these vehicles in shops in Hadley & Ypsilanti Townships. The latest shipment of 25 Southeast Michigan PET vehicles was sent to Tampa in late March of 2011. 20 of these went to Ecuador & 5 will be going to Haiti. Our website is: www.petmieastmi.org CUMC's PET group carpools to Ed Noll's workshop near Hadley to fabricate and assemble parts for the PET vehicles, usually on the first Thursday or Saturday of the month. (Check Mission calendar). We meet at the church at 8:15 am, and return to the church by about 12:30pm. You should wear clothing appropriate for the weather, that would not be ruined by a little paint. Bring your favorite work gloves. Helping Hearts Helping Hands in Honduras
This is a family based non-profit organization, founded in 2007 by our church member Erica Cale. Changing the world, one child, one family, one face, one place......at a time! HHHH provides immediate assistance by delivering food, fresh water, clothing, shoes, and vitamins to starving children in Honduras. They deliver personal care items and provide instruction on self-care, dental care, health, and nutrition. They help families to establish businesses that will provide a source of income and help them to be self-sufficient. HHHH is in the process of opening an orphanage and will provide a loving Christian home for 12-16 children. For more information go to their website at www.helpingheartsandhelpinghands.org

Esthers Children
The Esthers Children Ambassadors supported by the United Methodist Women holds an annual Friendship Tea on the 1st Saturday in May every year here at CUMC in fellowship hall. Esthers Children was founded in March of 2006 by local Clarkston resident Emily Sutherland to rescue girls from the streets of Recife, Brazil. Their mission is to provide a safe and loving environment where these young girls can reclaim their childhood and grow into independent adults with a passion to serve other. if you would like to find out you can help with this tea and thus rescuing girls as young as eight from a live of prostitution please contact Pam Ruth pamruth@gmail.com or 248-421-7699 website is www.estherschildren.org

Beatrice Mamawah Gbanga - Is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church based in Sierra Leone, West Africa. She is the Medical Coordinator for the Sierra Leone Annual Conference and supervises the work of KISSY Hospital and the seven medical clinics supported by the annual conference. Global Connection Missions:
United Methodist Church Agriculture Program (UMCAP) - The UMC Agricultural Program is the oldest and largest church-related agriculture program in Liberia organized in the early 1960s by American missionaries who were interested in seeing rural church members engage in sustainable agro-busines for self-suffciency.
UMC Kissy General Hospital - The hospital started as a maternity unit around 1978. In 1992, Indiana signed a partnership agreement with the Southwest Louisiana AIDS Council (SLAC) to assist in Christian Health Care. In 1994, Dr. Dennis Marke became the chief medical officer. During the war, when the hospital had to close, Operation Doctor (Indiana) paid the nursing staff for approx 9 months. In the early 2000s, a child ward was built, then a surgical unit, and then a post-op ward.
US-2 Program - The US-2 program was created to remove young adults from their cultural setting and expose them to another culture within the United States. The idea was to have young adults deepen their faith by forming a commitment to live, learn and work with traditionally marginalized communities with movements for social change.
Residence for Women in Transition - These women's residences serve the needs of women who are in transition due to homelessness, recovery from substance abuse, recent release from incarceration, etc. This advance will provide funding for new program facets or other program needs.
UMCOR
Disaster Response International - The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) responds to dozens of unsung disasters every year. UMCOR is there even when the news cameras are not. Whether it is the South Asia tsunami or cholera in Cameroon, UMCOR is there: sowing seeds of hope and empowering communities to step forward to a new and better future. UMCOR works to alleviate human suffering and to bring hope in seemingly hopeless situations.
Mother & Child Survival - Women and children are among the most vulnerable to ill health in poor communities around the world. Many women die during pregnancy and child birth as also a large number of infants in the first year of life. These lives cn be saved by adopting some simple preventative measures. Health eduction, immunizations, cleanwater, sanitation and effective nutrition are of paramount importance.
The community based primary health care model that GBGM has espoused since over 20 years, with its emphasis on maternal and child health, is the best approach to saving lives.
Liberia - Scholarships for Elementary, Secondary, College & Seminary Education - As a result of 14 years of Civil War in Liberia, thousands of young adults never had the opportunity for education for these people vocational schools and training is needed.
Haiti Emergency- For years, Haiti has been devastated by hurricanes, flooding, political violence and a major earthquake. Already a country living in extreme poverty, the massive earthquake on January 12, 2010 has caused incalculable loss of human life and destruction to the homes and livelihoods of millions of people.
Camphor Mission - The war in Liberia damaged all of hte buildings here. The mission has educated many children. It had also been the only health point for the whole environment for that area, and was destroyed in the war. It fed thousands of refugees and displaced people during the war as a result of its agricultural program and provided for people's needs during the war. The school has also sponsored students to go to high school and university.
Nothing but Nets - Malaria has become an epidemic in the country of Sierra Leone, and one way to slow down the spread of this disease is to hand out insecticide-treated nets that kill mosquitoes on contact and reduce the spread of the disease by 80%. Last year, CUMC raised enough money to send 191 nets to the home base in Sierra Leone.
