The Plarn Project is one of those beautiful examples of faith in action — where a simple plastic bag becomes something meaningful in the hands of a caring community. Each Tuesday from 9:00 AM to noon in Fellowship Hall, a dedicated group gathers to crochet mats made from "plarn" (plastic yarn) — strips of repurposed plastic bags woven together to create durable, waterproof sleeping mats for people experiencing homelessness. It's creative. It's purposeful. And it's a wonderful way to serve others while sharing life together.
Whether you're an experienced crocheter or just looking for a welcoming place to connect and contribute, you are invited to drop in any Tuesday that works for you. No need to commit to every week — just come when you can. And if Tuesday mornings don't fit your schedule, you can still be part of the project from the comfort of your own home! Volunteers who would like to help by flattening or cutting plastic bags at home are warmly welcomed. Simply contact Donna Truran at 231-955-0257 to receive bags and instructions. Every bag you prepare brings us one step closer to providing warmth and dignity to a neighbor in need.
This is the kind of ministry that reminds us why we serve — because each person matters, and every act of generosity, no matter how small it may seem, reflects the love of Christ to the world around us. We'd love to have you join us.
