Each June, Clarkston UMC dedicates a full week to living out our faith through hands-on service in our surrounding community. Love in Action Mission Week 2026 takes place June 8–12, and this year we're partnering with three organizations to make a lasting, tangible difference. Whether you're handy with a paintbrush or have never picked up a power tool, there is a place for you.
This year's projects include installing new exterior siding at a Safe & Sound Ministries home in Pontiac, which provides cooperative housing for individuals with mental illness and special needs. We'll also be at the North End Soup Kitchen in Flint tackling a wide range of improvements — from building an accessibility ramp and remodeling restrooms to painting the dining room and refreshing the landscaping. And right here at CUMC, volunteers will renovate a lower-level classroom and update our Fellowship Hall with new cabinetry, electrical work, and valance boards. For those who prefer to stay on-site, a PLARN station at CUMC will be set up to weave plastic bags into sleeping mats for neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Each day begins with breakfast, fellowship, and devotions at 7:30 a.m., followed by meaningful work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can volunteer for one day or all five — just bring a water bottle, gloves, safety glasses, and your energy. There is no cost to participate, and every volunteer receives a Love in Action t-shirt. Register on the CUMC website to share your availability, project preferences, and shirt size. Come put love into action with us!
